Piano - 3 classes (all levels)

Max. 2 participants.
Registration deadline: One week before the first class.

This course is one of our summer courses with only 3 sessions.
You can choose to use the course as a kind of introduction to our longer courses that start later in the semester.

Are you looking to start a long-overdue journey on the piano? Do you already have a decent piano foundation? Are you comfortable with the piano already and looking to level up your skills? This course is open to all levels, and employs an ear-first approach to learning the piano. We will play well-known melodies as well as songs that you want to learn, adjusting them to fit your skill level! We will also work on piano technique to make the learning process easier over time.

As a teacher, it’s most important to me that learning piano be an enjoyable and rewarding activity. This is why we get straight to playing the instrument.

For beginners we will start with a balance of piano basics and well-known melodies or simple versions of songs you suggest, the goal is to develop a sustainable piano practice and to keep playing music fun and engaging.

For the intermediate skill level, we get more comfortable on the instrument we will start using sheet music as a tool for learning and retaining new songs still balanced with an ear-based approach. We will also get deeper into a broader collection of piano technique and music, developing more versatile keyboard skills. We will also focus more on groove and different piano-specific idioms.

For the advanced skill level, we can explore deeper harmonic and melodic material to dive into new musical territory. We will also work on advanced sheet music, improvisation, more accurate covers of songs, and possibly work on students’ own compositions and musical ideas.

Every student’s learning style and goals are different and it is my philosophy that a student should have a choice in the course material and process. This is why I encourage feedback throughout my lessons to help guide our learning process in a direction that maintains the joy of music while continuing to make a forward progression on the piano.

You can be a total beginner with no experience, have a moderate foundation, have some experience playing by yourself, or even experience playing in bands and performing. You should also have a keyboard or piano at home, or be ready to get one to study this course in order to practice between lessons. Most of all, you should be interested in learning something new and exploring music through the piano!
