Synthesizer Crash Course (beginner-intermediate)

You can choose to use the course as a kind of introduction to our longer courses that start after the summer vacation.
This course dives into synthesis! We will go far beyond scrolling for sounds, unpacking the fundamentals of synthesis so we can better express and channel our imagination through the synthesizer.
In this course we will start with the sections of a basic analog or analog-modelling synthesizer: oscillators, filters, envelopes, amps and LFOs as well as additional sections on many modern synths.
The goal of this course is to start using the synthesizer creatively and to think of it its own instrument rather than an extension of a keyboard or DAW.
Throughout this course we will create basic sounds, break down recognizable sounds from recordings, replicate sounds from acoustic instruments, modify existing presets as well as build sounds using our own explorations and imagination.
By the end of the course, the participants should have the resources needed to continue working on their own, and deepen their knowledge and enjoyment of using synthesizers.
This course will require either a hardware synthesizer or computer with a DAW (Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Reaper, FL Studio, etc.).
If a participant doesn’t have a laptop/computer with a DAW, we can explore free options and/or supply one of the instructor’s own instruments.
You are someone who has a fascination with the nature of sound and a desire to better understand how synthesis works. You have some knowledge of music and experience in playing keyboard or programming midi in a DAW.
